01 Introduction

WatchRoom (the "Service") is operated by Novelty Technologies, LLC ("WatchRoom", "we", "us", or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the Service, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using WatchRoom, you agree to the practices described here and in our Terms of Service.

02 Information We Collect

Account information

When you create an account or set up a profile, we may collect your email address, display name, and avatar image.

Room data

To run synchronized co-watching sessions, we process room names, video queues, playback state, and the list of participants in a room.

Chat messages

We process the chat messages you send within a room so they can be delivered to other participants.

Technical & log data

Like most online services, we automatically collect technical information such as your IP address, device and browser type, timestamps, and connection/latency metrics used to keep playback in sync and to diagnose problems.

03 How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the Service, including keeping playback synchronized across participants;
  • Authenticate you and manage your account and profile;
  • Deliver chat messages and manage room queues and participants;
  • Monitor performance, diagnose issues, and improve reliability and security;
  • Enforce our Terms of Service and respond to abuse or legal requests;
  • Communicate with you about the Service when necessary.

We do not use your information to build advertising profiles, and we do not sell it.

04 YouTube API Services

WatchRoom uses YouTube API Services. We rely on these services to search for, embed, and play video content within rooms.

Required YouTube disclosures

By using WatchRoom, you also agree to the YouTube Terms of Service.

The Google Privacy Policy applies to information collected by Google through the YouTube API Services.

You can revoke WatchRoom's access to your data at any time via the Google security settings page: https://security.google.com/settings/security/permissions.

WatchRoom is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by YouTube or Google. We access YouTube API Services only as needed to provide the co-watching features described in this policy.

05 How Information Is Shared

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in the limited circumstances below:

  • With other room participants: your display name, avatar, chat messages, and queue contributions are visible to people in the same room.
  • With service providers: vendors that host infrastructure or provide supporting services, bound by confidentiality obligations and permitted to use the data only to perform services for us.
  • For legal reasons: when we believe in good faith that disclosure is required to comply with the law, enforce our Terms, or protect the rights, safety, and property of WatchRoom, our users, or others.
  • In a business transfer: in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.

06 Data Retention

We retain personal information only for as long as needed to provide the Service and for legitimate purposes such as security, dispute resolution, and legal compliance. Room data and chat messages may be deleted when a room ends or after a defined retention window. When information is no longer needed, we delete or anonymize it.

07 Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

08 Your Rights & Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. You can:

  • Update your profile information (display name, avatar) in your account settings;
  • Request access to or deletion of your account data by contacting us;
  • Revoke WatchRoom's access to your Google/YouTube data via the Google security settings.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address in the Contact section below.

09 Children's Privacy

The Service is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

10 Self-Hosting Note

WatchRoom is a self-hostable application. If you access an instance of WatchRoom that is operated by a third party (a self-hosting "host operator"), that host operator โ€” not Novelty Technologies, LLC โ€” is the data controller responsible for the information processed on that instance. This Policy describes practices for instances operated directly by Novelty Technologies, LLC; self-hosted instances may handle data differently, and you should consult that operator's own privacy notice.

11 Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.

12 Contact
